Success Story – Life Sciences


A leading US-based biotechnology company invested US$40 million in Singapore for a new biocatalyst research facility to develop sustainable technologies for the pharmaceutical industry. The new facility – their second international location and the first in Asia – was expected to house up to 80 R&D professionals.


Challenges

The company had less than 10 weeks to secure the first batch of core hires: 20 biocatalyst engineering professionals. With the region’s festive season looming, many professionals were expected to be on vacation and out of reach, threatening to delay workforce expansion plans. Missing the hiring target not only meant operational delays, but carried severe financial implications through project penalties. Adding to the challenge, the positions that needed to be filled had a niche skills set – necessitating cross-border talent sourcing.
